When we think of Lent, we often think of what we are going to give up. Will it be chocolate? Soda? Maybe even meat? Or maybe I could do a challenge, like "pray the rosary every day"! While it's true that Lent is a penitential time in which sacrificing something like candy is appropriate, the whole point of that is to help us grow in our relationship with God. You sacrifice meat not simply for the sake of losing weight. This isn't just another chance to get back to that New Year's Resolution you forgot about. This is about God.
If you are simply giving something up or even giving yourself a challenge without that in mind, you lose sight of what this season is all about. This is a season of penance, prayer, fasting, and reflection, in which we are called to sacrifice and challenge ourselves for the sake of deepening our faith. And what better way to begin our journey of prayer and reflection this Lent than by turning to the daily Scripture readings?!
This page will be updated with a new reflection for every day of Lent, focusing on one of the readings from the Mass. Check the links below! If you are having trouble figuring out what you should be doing this Lent, or if you simply need something to help you in your own prayer and reflection, I hope I am able to help in some way through this Lenten Reflection Series!
